About Us


Chargers Water Polo Club is a youth sports program that is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of water polo and swimming. Players will be taught inside a complex college level system and code of conduct.

President/ Senior Coach-18U Head Coach:

Mark Canner

Mark Canner is entering his sixth season as the full-time Head Coach of the Cypress College Men’s and Women's Water Polo Program. Coach Canner took over as the Cypress College Head Women's Water Polo Coach, as a part-time faculty member, in 2017. Since, he has taken the program to five consecutive postseason appearances, while guiding the Chargers to a CCCAA State Top 10 Ranking for the first time in decades. In his new role, Mark will lead both the Cypress College Women's Water Polo program and bring back the Men's Water Polo program.
Prior to Cypress, Coach Canner won a state championship as the Assistant Coach at Golden West College, with a perfect 34-0 record. He also won two SCIAC championship as an Assistant Coach at Claremont McKenna College. He helped build a Division I CIF program as the Head Coach at Huntington Beach High School, where he won the program's first Sunset League Championship in 2019.
Coach Canner also has strong club connections, with years of experience as the Director of Huntington Beach Water Polo Club, one of the top clubs in the nation, where he has been a part of two National Championships.
He graduated from Whittier College with a bachelor’s in kinesiology and an emphasis in physical therapy. He was captain of the Poets water polo and baseball teams, which got him inducted into the Whittier College Hall of Fame in 2016. He went on to graduate with a Masters in Kinesiology from Long Beach State.

Director/ Senior Coach-16U Head Coach:

Ryan Rosenlof

Coach Ryan grew up in Long Beach and attended Lakewood High School.  He was on the water polo and swim team for his 3 years during high school.  He was a 2 year captain varsity water polo player and 3 year varsity swimmer.   After graduating high school he went right into the workforce.  Starting his career in the IBEW Local 11.   
Coach Ryan has been involved in coaching youth sports with his 3 boys from the time they were very young.  He started coaching Water polo at Huntington Beach Water Polo Club with Coach Mark Canner for 10 years. While at HBWPC he coached 12u, 14u boys.  Ryan spent a brief time at Riptide Water Polo Club coaching 12-14u boys.  
In 2021 Coach Ryan started Chargers Water Polo Club with Coach Mark Canner and coach Nolan Strout.  While at Chargers he has coached 16u, 18u boys and 18u girls. Along with Coach Mark, Ryan is very excited to continue to build the water polo community in the cypress area and be a positive impact with the youth

Head Coach 18U & 16U Girls:

Julia Reyes

Coach Julia Reyes is entering her second season assisting the Cypress College water polo program.
Prior to coaching at Cypress College, Reyes played four years at Arizona State University where she majored in Educational Studies. In her four years at ASU they consistently ranked top-10 nationally.
Coach Reyes attended Cerritos High School where she holds the record for most goals in a season/career and most steals in program history. Reyes was also part of three consecutive CIF Division 4 wins with the Cerritos High School swim team and set a CIF division record in the 200 Free Relay in 2015.

Assistant Coach-18U Boys:

Luke Garrison

Coach Luke Garrison grew up playing Water Polo from ages 5-16yrs old, with the United Water Polo Club, where he was a part of seven Junior Olympic Gold Medal teams (Platinum Division) and one Silver medal team (Platinum Team).
He attended St. John Bosco High School where he graduated with honors as a four-year varsity water polo athlete (three-year starter), four-time scholar-athlete, two times all Trinity League second team, and Senior Captain.
Coach Garrison has previously coached at United Water Polo Club and Los Alamitos Aquatics Foundation. Currently, he is the assistant coach for the 18U team for Chargers Water Polo Club. Coach Luke Garrison attends LBSU where he is earning his BA in History as well as his teaching credential.

Assistant Coach - High School Boys:

Sawyer Nering

Coach Sawyer is entering his first season of coaching for the Chargers water polo program.
Sawyer just finished his second season as the captain of the Cypress College water polo team under coach Canner helping lead them the back to back winning seasons.
Sawyer is graduating from Cypress with a degree in Elementary Education and is looking to transfer and continue playing water polo at the University of La Verne this upcoming fall.

Assistant Coach - High School Boys:

Aydann Hambruch

Aydann Hambruch is entering his seconds season as the captain of the Cypress College Men's Water Polo Program and seconds session as an assistant coach at Chargers Water Polo Club. Coach Aydann Hambruch was added as a coach for the 16u and 18u boys water polo team for the fall session of 2022.
Before being a coach, Aydan played at the club level for almost 11 years. He was a participant in the National Junior Olympic at the 12u, 14u, 16u, and 18u tournaments. During this time, his teams placed 2nd in the 18u Platinum division and 1st in the 14u Gold division. Coach Aydann was also the captain for many of these teams.
Prior to coaching, Aydan was the captain and MVP at Cypress College. He led his team to a 14-10 record in the Orange Empire Conference. In the 17 games he played, Aydann scored 44 goals and drew 20 ejections as a center guard.  Aydan was one of two players on the Cypress College Men's program to receive a spot on the Orange Empire Conference All League Team.
